Community-Based Education (Module 4)

The world of community-based education is quite large and covers as many subjects as there are human interests.  While this can seem to be a daunting topic to explore, it is actually pretty exciting as both students and teachers can find something that they are passionate about to study/teach or develop a brand new interest.  And these programs can be found throughout one's community --- in libraries, churches, zoos, arts centers, the list goes on and on.  I did a few quick searches on "community class..." and added a word such as "farming" and "fashion" and so many websites of unique programs popped up.

Since so much of my world is music, I explored some music programs and found options from classical to rock, private and group lessons, and programs for toddlers through adults.  I also reflected on my volunteer work with ESL students.  There are programs for children and adults, classroom settings and more informal conversation practice groups.  The cost for community classes can range from free to a significant monetary commitment for classes and materials.  The time commitment can vary as well, from an afternoon seminar to classes that meet several times a week.
